AI for the in-between: Navigating career transitions
April, 2025
Meet Beth
Beth Grammer, MBA is a people connector, rescue dog mom (and occasional foster), culinary enthusiast, travel junkie, and workplace equity advocate - who is currently using AI to navigate the uncertainty and emotional rollercoaster of a professional transition.
How “Beth Runs on AI”
Since starting her mid-career sabbatical last December, Beth has been using ChatGPT for everything from planning adventures to tackling tedious tasks. Some of her favorite uses include:
Contract Review: When reviewing contracts, Beth copies sections into ChatGPT to analyze, summarize, and spot potential negotiation points—helping reduce attorney fees.
Interview Prep: Beth shares job descriptions with ChatGPT to generate likely interview questions. By uploading her resume or LinkedIn, she also gets tailored tips to present her best self.
Customized Travel Planning: For her solo trip to Finland, Beth used ChatGPT to build her itinerary—from packing lists and transfers to food spots—piecing together all the components of the trip.
Canva and ChatGPT: With Canva now in ChatGPT, Beth quickly creates content. She recently used it to mock up LinkedIn posts for a board announcement and Equal Pay Day.
Reverse Cooking: Beth lists whatever ingredients she has, and ChatGPT suggests recipes—making sure nothing goes to waste.
How AI Changed Her Routine
AI has totally shaken up Beth’s routine—in the best way possible! Gone are the days of drowning in tedious tasks and internet searches; now, AI handles the busy work while she focuses embracing the present during her sabbatical from work.
Whether it’s helping her explore her career future, offering genius-level suggestions for weekend fun, or just making life a little easier, AI is basically her personal assistant—minus the dog walks.
Her #1 AI Hack
Beth regularly uses WhatsApp to communicate with friends and professionals outside the United States and therefore, she was thrilled to see a version of the ChatGPT experience in the WhatsApp platform.
Beth's tip: To use ChatGPT on WhatsApp, save +1-800-242-8478 as a contact, then open WhatsApp, find ChatGPT in your contacts, and start chatting.
Her Advice to You
“Prompting is important when using ChatGPT, or any AI chatbot. Prompts are the information provided to the AI to ultimately produce an answer. If you want the AI to do something unique, edgy, and doesn’t sound like AI writing, the more context you provide the better."
"I recommend always providing a persona in context with the task you want it to complete (e.g. I am a seasoned international traveler passionate about local cuisine and authentic food experiences. Suggest three cities for an upcoming solo trip this summer). And when iterating, ask ChatGPT to dive deeper, restrict, or further refine the answer (e.g. I am vegetarian, does this change your recommendations?)."
